As a key supplier to the residential building industry, JELD-WEN absolutely relies on young people taking on apprenticeships in the housing industry, and becoming a successful homebuilder requires a great commitment from a young person.

This is why JELD-WEN is so dedicated to supporting apprentices to complete their qualifications and then make that transition to running their own business.

JELD-WEN, in partnership with the HIA has worked hard to develop an initiative that can support future apprentices and reduce the shortage of skilled workers in the industry. The outcome of this partnership is the Build Your Future program.

This program is specifically designed to support apprentices to complete their trade qualifications and more importantly, give them access to acquire necessary business skills so they can make the successful transition from apprentice to sole contractor.

The keystone to this program is HIA Training Scholarships with two to be awarded each year. Full and partial scholarships will be awarded across Australia to a total value of $200,000 with individual scholarships ranging up to $6,500 to help offset the cost of HIA training fees.

HIA Apprentice wins a JELD-WEN V8 weekend away.

Apprentice kitchen cabinet maker Josh Roe said he would give it all up for a chance to be at the Sydney Telstra 500 V8 Supercar grand finale, and by the end of an eventful weekend he said it was all worth it!

Josh entered the JELD-WEN V8 experience through the HIA Build Your Future program, partnered by JELD-WEN. Josh and his girlfriend Isabelle were flown into Sydney to watch the final race of the series, and got the opportunity to meet JELD-WEN sponsored driver James Courtney.

Check out the video above to see how Josh’s V8 experience unfolded.
