After a hugely successful 2011 series and winning a TV Week Logie Award for Most Popular Reality Program, Nine Network’s The Block is back in 2012 for its fifth season, and it is stacking up to be the biggest and toughest series yet with more surprises and twists guaranteed to shake up the competition and test the contestants and their renovating skills.
JELD-WEN Australia — the name behind the brands of Stegbar and Corinthian Doors — have been part of every series of The Block since the series first went to air back 2003.
This year will be no different with the very best products supplied to contestants showcasing the vast range of products JELD-WEN has to offer. There will be products to inspire you in every room across all four terraces as the contestants set about bringing their renovation to life for viewers across Australia to see and be inspired by.
Starting with eight teams, a week of tough challenges will see them whittled down to the final four who will get to move into The Block, a set of four dilapidated terrace houses located in the inner-city suburb of South Melbourne.
The contestants will face challenges like no other across previous series of The Block as all four terraces are considered to have significant heritage value and fall under very strict regulations designed to conserve the original features of the houses and protect the streetscape from inappropriate development.
Contestants will have to honour the history of these terraces and meet all Heritage Overlay Guidelines, but are free to apply a modern touch with interior design and styling.
Along the way the contestants will be constantly scrutinised by the critical eyes of the judges, Belle Magazine Editor Neale Whitaker, Property Expert John McGrath and Interior Designer Shaynna Blaze, who makes her debut in this year’s series.
Like in previous series of The Block each couple will get to keep the profit from the auction of their own property and the couple whose property makes the most over reserve at auction wins an additional $100,000.
Check back each week after the room reveals to see which JELD-WEN Australia products inspired the contestants and how the products were incorporated into the design of each room.
