Winn Dixie 250, Daytona International Speedway, Florida
06 July 2007
Marcos Ambrose is ready for tomorrow’s Winn Dixie 250 after conducting a solid day of practice at Daytona International Speedway in Florida today.
Ambrose evaluated race set-up and the performance of his #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion in the draft in today’s two major practice sessions.
The Australian timed 27th fastest in the first practice session and 33rd in final practice, however on a superspeedway, practice times are largely irrelevant as drafting is the major factor determining lap times around the ultra-fast 2.5-mile (4.02-kilometre) oval.
Ambrose and rookie rival David Ragan both took the opportunity to gain extra track time in rookie practice, but were the only two cars to set a time.
Reed Sorenson and Jason Leffler topped today’s two major practice sessions. Qualifying and the 100-lap Winn Dixie 250 will be conducted tomorrow.

“We ran nicely in the draft and it felt good to be back on a superspeedway,” said Ambrose
“Superspeedway racing is a very different kind of racing and running well in the draft is what you need to be strong at on race day. The times are irrelevant today; the set-up sheets are the important thing.
“I’m looking forward to the race tomorrow. It’s all about running a good pace and being comfortable so that you can work your way to the front.
“There are a lot of Cup guys running with us tomorrow but think that the challenge of running with the best around a place like Daytona is really something. It should be a great race.”
