Australian Marcos Ambrose recorded another solid finish at the Daytona International Speedway after climbing through the field during the Winn-Dixie 250, race 19 in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series, today.
After qualifying 34th fastest Ambrose made some big movement towards the front of the field during the opening half of the race to run inside the top 20 by lap 50 aboard the #59 Kingsford Match Light Ford Fusion.
As the field headed for a green-white-checkered dash to the finish Ambrose was on track to record a career best finish at the famous 2.5-mile oval in 15th place.
While he kept clear of any trouble during the final two laps he dropped a handful of spots to cross the line in 20th place. Today’s result sees the dual V8 Supercar Champion maintain his 13th spot in the championship standings.
Today’s race was won by Denny Hamlin ahead of Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jnr.
Ambrose will be in action again next weekend at Chicagoland Speedway.
QUOTES - MARCOS AMBROSE
“Today was a race where we had to play it smart and in the end we came away with another solid haul of points,” said Ambrose.
“We made some inroads during the opening half of the race. It was unfortunate that we lost those spots on the dash to the line but the car finished straight and we maintained our spot in the points standings.
“I didn’t have the best of runs last year at Chicagoland so I’m looking forward to turning that around next weekend.”
