Ambrose Qualifies 29th for Dover Cup Race

Dover International Speedway, Dover, Delaware

20 Sep 2008

Marcos Ambrose has qualified in 29th position for the Camping World RV 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware today.

The qualifying result means Ambrose will make his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start this weekend at Dover, his fifth with Wood Brothers Racing, his fourth on an oval, his first at Dover International Raceway and his first on a one-mile oval.

Ambrose was happy with the speed of the #21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford Fusion on the concrete-surfaced speedway, setting the 27th fastest time in the sole Sprint Cup practice session held before qualifying, where Ambrose had to qualify on speed for Sunday’s race.

It capped a successful opening day for Ambrose in Dover, who was sixth fastest in opening NASCAR Nationwide Series practice session in the #59 Kingsford Tailgate Ford Fusion of JTG Daugherty Racing.

Ambrose, who has a best result of sixth in Nationwide competition at ‘The Monster Mile’, was then 13th fastest in final practice for the Camping World RV Sales 200, which will be held tomorrow at the one mile speedway.

Jeff Gordon scored pole for the Camping Word RV 400 Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway today ahead of Mark Martin and Denny Hamlin. Gordon, a four-time Sprint Cup champion, also topped today’s sole Cup practice session.

Kyle Busch and Mike Bliss were the fastest drivers in the two Nationwide Series practice sessions held in Dover today.

QUOTES - MARCOS AMBROSE

“I knew the #21 car was good in practice, so you just don’t want to mess up,” said Ambrose.

“I underdrove it just a little bit, but I’m really pleased with that.

“This track actually feels better for me. The COT seems to like more banking and the more banking you get the better they feel.

“At Michigan, Loudon and California I had my hands full, but here I feel much more comfortable with the car.

“On the Nationwide side of things the Kingsford car ran well. It was fairly consistent, which is a good sign for tomorrow.”
