Ambrose Has Best Cup Qualifying on Oval in Kansas

Marcos Ambrose has earned his best NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying result on an oval with 20th in qualifying for the Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City today.

It was an impressive day for Ambrose, who will make his seventh Sprint Cup start and the second for JTG Daugherty Racing in Kansas on Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Ambrose was 24th fastest in Sprint Cup practice in the #47 Ford Fusion today, and was more than fast enough to qualify for this weekend Sprint Cup event on speed.

In Nationwide Series competition, Ambrose was ninth and 16th in the two practice sessions held, a strong start for the Australian behind the wheel of the #59 Kingsford Tailgate Ford Fusion of JTG Daugherty Racing.

Jimmie Johnson won pole for the Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway today ahead of Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth.

“We are in the race and in the top 20, so that’s a great day for us,” said Ambrose.

“It’s only our second race in Cup with JTG Daugherty Racing in the Little Debbie car. We’ve got a way to go but I’m so proud of this team that we’re able to post these sorts of times here.

“We’ve got the car working well for qualifying today, now we’ve got to work on it for the long runs tomorrow in practice.

“The hard work is paying off. We’re in the race for all our sponsors like Little Debbie and Kingsford and I like running here at Kansas, so I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s Cup race.

“The Kingsford car was good today in Nationwide practice. We posted a top 10 time in one session there and weren’t far off in the other. We’ve had top 10 pace for a while in that car, we’ve just got to put it together in the race tomorrow.”
