Ambrose Scores 10th Place in Sprint Showdown

17 May 2009

Marcos Ambrose has finished in a respectable 10th place in his Sprint Showdown debut at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina today.

Starting from 14th position, Ambrose was pleased with the pace of his #47 Kingsford entry from JTG Daugherty Racing and was able to race hard and move up the order.

In the 40-lap event Ambrose was able to run in the lead bunch but the Australian was unable to get far enough forward to claim a top two finishing position to advance into the Sprint All-Star race later today.

Sam Hornish Jr and Jamie McMurray finished first and second to advance to the Sprint All-Star race, with Joey Logano also progressing as a result of winning the fan vote.

Ambrose will return to Lowe’s Motor Speedway next weekend for the Coca Cola 600, race 12 of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

What Marcos Has to Say

“The Kingsford car was good tonight but we can still get it better for next week,” said Ambrose.

“We had pretty good pace, but it’s a 40-lap sprint and there’s a lot going on out there and we just couldn’t get the breaks you need to move up and get through the pack.

“I would have really liked to have got through to the All-Star, but we didn’t get it done tonight.

“We definitely improved the car from Friday to Saturday. Now we’ll work at improving it for next weekend and the 600.”
