Ambrose Qualifies 11th in Atlanta

Marcos Ambrose has qualified in 11th position for the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia today.

At one of the fastest tracks on the gruelling NASCAR schedule, Ambrose enjoyed a strong opening day to proceedings at the 1.54-mile oval, setting the 18th and 15th fastest times in the two practice sessions held prior to qualifying.

The Australian is determined to put in a strong showing aboard the #47 Clorox-backed entry of JTG Daugherty Racing this weekend, having run well in Atlanta earlier this season only to fall out of contention with engine problems.

Ambrose is also keen to have a solid run this weekend on his return to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition after a weekend to forget in Montreal last weekend in both Nationwide Seris and Grand-Am sportscar competition while racing on the final off-weekend of the 2009 Sprint Cup schedule.

2010 Michael Waltrip Racing signing Martin Truex Jr won pole position for the Pep Boys Auto 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway today, ahead of Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson.

What Marcos Had to Say

“That’s a pretty solid time and we’re pleased with how we’ve got the Clorox car working here in Atlanta,” said Ambrose.

“There is still work to do, because this is a very tough track and 500 miles here is going to be a long race tomorrow.

“This race marks the run to the finish for us in terms of this season. We’re very keen to run well here and carry some strong momentum right through to the end of the season with some good results.”
