Marcos Ambrose has enjoyed a strong performance on his way to 14th place in the AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway in Delaware today.
Ambrose started from 27th position but used strong car speed to move up the order, running just outside the top 10 for the majority of the race.
In the final stages of the race Ambrose was positioned well for a late-race charge, but a lack of rear-end grip prevented him from further progress.
The Australian maintains 17th place in the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points standings with eight races remaining this season.
Today was Ambrose’s 16th top 20 finish of the season and his best performance since scoring third place at Bristol Motor Speedway four races ago.
Jimmie Johnson won today's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway ahead of points leader Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth.
Ambrose return to Sprint Cup Series action next weekend for the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway.
“We started the race off a little tight (understeer) with the Little Debbie car, but overall the car was good at the beginning of the race,” said Ambrose.
“As the race went on, we lost rear grip and there at the end it was a bit of a handful.
“All in all, it was a better run than we had here earlier this season.
“I'm pleased with our efforts today. It’s closer to where we want to be in the top 10 than we’ve had for the past few weeks so we’ll take a lot away from Dover.”
