Stone Brothers Racing completed a full three-car test at Queensland Raceway yesterday, Brisbane’s wild weather holding off to allow each of the SBR Falcons to do over 100 laps at the 3.12km circuit.
The JELD-WEN Motorsport and SP Tools Racing Falcons ran from dawn until dusk with James Courtney and Shane van Gisbergen behind the wheel.
SBR endurance drivers David Besnard and Jonathon Webb also took part i n the test, both getting a shot in the Championship cars and plenty of track time in SBR’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar.
The team’s second test day of the year delivered positive outcomes, with new developments ready to be implemented for round five of the V8 Supercar Championship Series next weekend.
The JELD-WEN Motorsport and SP Tools Racing Falcons will next race at the Midas 400 from 7-9 June 2008 at Sandown International Motor Raceway in Victoria.
SBR’s development series entry will also be at Sandown with Jonathon Webb competing in round three of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
James Courtney, car #4, JELD-WEN Motorsport
“Yesterday’s test was really productive.
“We had a big list of components to test and we got though a lot. Some were good, others not so much but that is what testing is about and this was a really good test.
“We’ve got some good improvements that will go on the JELD-WEN Falcon for Sandown and I think it will really give us the edge we’ve been looking for.”
Shane van Gisbergen, car #9, SP Tools Racing
“The test day yesterday was great; we went eight-tenths quicker than I have ever been before around Queensland Raceway and I’m feeling really comfortable in the car.
“We did quite a bit of testing on the rear of the SP Tools car and the JELD-WEN guys did a lot on the front.
“We should be able to put all the information together and come up with quite a bit of speed in the cars for Sandown.”
David Besnard, JELD-WEN Motorsport endurance driver
“I haven’t driven the SBR cars since Bathurst last year.
“We obviously had a good car then to come away with second; the 2008 JELD-WEN Falcon is a great improvement on last year’s car so it’s looking really positive.
“I got a few laps in the number four car today and will get some more in the first part of practice at Sandown.
“It a ll helps to get back in the groove; I’m looking forward to it.”
Jonathon Webb, car #94, Stone Brothers Racing and SP Tools Racing endurance driver
“We had a very full day with the number 94 car today.
“After a quick go in the SP Tools Falcon we were able to get back in the Fujitsu car and try to come up with something that was comparable.
“David (Besnard) and I spent most of our time in the 94 car and we have got it to a stage where it is probably the best it has been.
“Sandown will be a good test for it.”
